Horror Stories set in Louisiana... we are NOT looking for New Orleans Voodoo Queens stories, we're looking for something different, but the State has to be featured in the tale!There you go, wide open, and remember... be original!

We are looking for tales in the 2,500-7,500 word range. Nothing more, nothing less. We will return (unread) anything not within these guidelines. You can submit a story as either an attachment to the e-mail address in Word or in the body of an e-mail. We do NOT accept snail mail. Please put "I, Executioner" in the subject of the e-mail and give a word count in the e-mail itself, even if the story also has it listed. Our reading time is usually 6-8 weeks NO multiple submissions, NO exceptions. Reprints accepted.

Vermin anthology Update

In the two weeks since the Vermin eBook anthology has been open to submissions we've received (as of today):

243 submissions

Of those, 35 have been rejected so far

There are 12 spots still open to fill. We've already passed 3 stories to the second round of reading, which will be conducted immediately after the reading period officially closes (July 15th).

"Vermin" anthology Update and Novella Update

The reading period for the "Vermin" horror anthology as well as the open period for Novella submissions started Wednesday.

So far, the initial turnout has been excellent.

Lets break it down for you:

"Vermin" story submissions as of 4/17/2009 11am: 60
Initial Rejections: 4
Open slots in anthology: 15
Returning stories previously accepted: 3
Remaining slots: 12

Keith Gouveia, Chuck Wendig and James F Reilly all have short stories already accepted in the anthology, but the other 12 slots are wide-open. I will tell you that the three stories accepted so far have the following 'vermin' involved: bugs, squirrels and rats.

As for the Novella Submissions as of 4/17/2009 11am: 12
Initial Rejections: 2

We are also looking at reprinting a release that Carnifex Press had previously put out that we love, and to answer the question we seem to get the most... YES, we will look at your novella even if it's been printed elsewhere before, as long as it is out of print now.

Four days until "Vermin" Opens...

The "Vermin" anthology opens to Horror short story submissions on Wednesday, April 15th... and we've gotten quite a few initial queries about the eBook, so it looks promising... we've also gotten a number of the short stories originally scheduled to be included in the original Carnifex Press release back as well, which is great news... but bad news for writers trying to get into the anthology since there will only be 15 stories selected in total (right now)...

Starting on the 15th we'll be doing all of our updating for the anthology right here, so keep an eye out for them... letting you know how many stories came in every few days, how many stories have been accepted for the second round of reading, how many stories were rejected, etc.

Vermin anthology

Sometimes I wonder about writers...

We've managed to post about the upcoming "Vermin" anthology in as many places as we know about, and I guess it is working to get the word out about the upcoming eBook anthology, because...

No less than five writers have already sent us their stories for the eBook...

Which would be great, if they had bothered to read the part where we aren't open to subs until April 15th.

Also, we've gotten three queries that basically all say: 'I have the perfect story for your antho, and I know you'll love it so much, so can I send it to you now to get a jump on the stories you'll be rejecting?'

As I am fairly new to the publishing world, I'm curious if any of my fellow publisher friends has run into the same thing...
